To bring St. Mary's Cemetery into Perpetual Care, the Cemetery Committee, with the guidance of our pastor, Rev. Peter Yeboah-Amanfo, needs the cooperation and especially the dollar contributions of all parishioners and non-parishioners who have loved ones buried in our cemetery.
Perpetual Care is a privilege guaranteeing the upkeep of a grave from current time until the end of time. It generally means "to keep the sod in repair; to cut, clean and care for graves as necessitaed by natural growth." It also includes the maintenance of unsold portions of the cemetery, the roadways and walkways so that the general appearance of the entire cemetery is attractive. The term "care" will in no case mean the maintenance, repair or replacement of any gravestones, monuments or memorials placed or erected on any grave, nor does it mean the reconstruction of any marker, granite, bronze or concrete work damaged by any cause, direct or indirect.
In accordance with this, the following rules and regulations are in effect. These rules and guidelines are subject to change as the need arises; however, we hope that all will abide by them for the ease of maintenance and lasting beauty of our cemetery.
Rule 1. Purchasing Gravesites
A. Every Catholic in good standing with the Church has the right to a Christian burial, and the
right to be buried on consecrated ground. The cemetery is intended for the interment of
Catholics. However, since the Church does not wish to separate in death those who were
united in life, the interment of a non-Catholic spouse is permitted.
B. All cemetery land is legally owned by the Church. A deed issued for a cemetery lot or
gravesite entitles the holder to the privilege of burial in the designated area. There will be no
purchasing of an excessive number of gravesites for unknown future family members. In no
instance, shall a grave owner have the right to sell, transjer or exchange a gravesite without
permission of the Cemetery Committee. This is so the exchange can be recorded in cemetery
records.
C. With special permission, the cremains of one person may be interred in a grave with traditonal interment (no additional tombstones may be added) or the cremains of two people may be interred in a single gravesite.
Rule 2. Landscaping and Care of Graves
A. There will be no permanent planting of shrubs, trees, and/or live flowers.
B. Graves should be leveled withing 6 months of burial. Flowers left on the grave after burial
need to removed within 3 weeks or as soon as they become unsightly. Graves that have
sunken need to be filled by family as soon as possible to avoid an accident. There is dirt in the north corner of the cemetery which is to be used for that purpose.
C. Floral arrangements will be limited to 2 and need to be placed as close to the tombstones as
possible. This does not include arrangements in vases attached to tombstones. This rule
applies for the entire year, except for the 3 weeks after burial and during the months of
November and December. Any excessive floras, containers, or broken vases, etc. will be
subject to removal.
D. Vigil lights are allowed throughout the year but need to be as close to the tombstones as
possible.
E. No other items are allowed on the gravesites that will interfere with mowing. Military markers
and corner lot markers are to be level with the ground.
F. No new curbing or above ground covers for graves will be allowed in any part of the cemetery.
Existing ones are to remain and will be subject to upkeep by the family of the deceased. If such
are not kept up by the family at all times, they are subject to removal by the Cemetery
Committee.
G. All trash and old flowers must be removed or put in the dumpster located behind the church or
in the trash barrels provided at the cemetery.
H. Upkeep of Monuments: Tombstones are the responsibility of the family of the deceased and are to be kept in good repair. Tombstones are to be erected within the boundary of the gravesite. Tin markers are temporary only and need to be replaced by a proper monument as soon as
possible. This is to ensure that the grave will always be marked or identified.
In short, the overall appearance and care of the cemetery will be reflected by your contributions. Please make donations to St. Mary's Cemetery Fund, PO Box 97, Nada, TX 77460. Donations
can also be placed in the Memorial Stand in church with the notation "Cemetery Fund" on the
outside of an envelope.
